FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Statement from New York State ¿ì²¥ÊÓƵDepartment Spokesperson JP O’Hare
The New York State ¿ì²¥ÊÓƵDepartment is aware of recent concerns circulating regarding the content of the Regents Examinations and calls for their cancellation based on claims of the potential for emotional trauma for specific religious or ethnic groups.
We want to reassure students, families, and educators that the Regents Exams will proceed as scheduled. These assessments are developed by committees of experienced New York State educators and go through a rigorous review process to ensure they meet high academic standards while remaining sensitive to all students. While no one can predict what might be happening in the world on any given day, multiple layers of review are conducted to identify and address any content that could be considered culturally insensitive or emotionally triggering. The exams are created to assess student knowledge in a fair, respectful, and appropriate manner.
Additionally, all Regents Exams are kept strictly secure prior to administration. Any claims currently being circulated about specific exam content are based on misinformation or unauthorized speculation. ¿ì²¥ÊÓƵ takes exam security seriously, and any breach or misrepresentation of the assessment content undermines the integrity of the process and does a disservice to the students who have worked hard to prepare.
We remain committed to providing a safe, supportive, and equitable educational environment for all students across New York State. Our goal is to ensure that every student has the opportunity to demonstrate their learning in a setting that honors both academic rigor and student well-being. The Department will continue to monitor and is fully prepared to respond swiftly and take all necessary actions to address the situation appropriately.
